As part of the Ballivor Community Childcare CLG based in Ballivor Co Meath, Giggles Creche aims to work alongside parents and families and – as the name suggests – provides a safe and fun environment, whilst maintaining a professional and affordable childcare service.
The group wanted to update its heating system so it turned to the experts at Ashgrove Renewables for a solution.
The company has vast experience and a team of four B.Eng Mechanical Engineers designed the new system, which was then installed by Ashgrove accredited installers, Wensar Heating and Plumbing. The final commissioning was carried out by an Ashgrove Technical Engineer.
As a result, the conventional gas system was replaced with high-efficiency, air-to-water twin heat pumps and energy-efficient weather compensatory control. The team installed two energy efficient Thermia Atec 16kW air-to-water heat pumps in a master slave system. This was combined with a 300-litre cylinder and buffer tank, a sensor kit, bi-pack connectors, a Wilo Para circulation pump as well as a Thermia twin kit.
The goal was to achieve a minimum of 50% savings in running costs compared to the previous conventional system. The feedback from the client has been positive, with Giggles stating significant savings that have cut costs from e9,000 to e2,600 during a corresponding seven-month period.
Peter Russell, Sales Manager at Ashgrove Renewables, explained, “What was needed was a lower running cost system. The weather compensation control is a predictive control and this helps increase the energy efficiency of the system.
“As the external temperature decreases, this causes increased heat loss from the building over a number of hours. The weather compensating control senses this change and increases the flow temperature in the underfloor heating pipes via a mixing valve. As a result, there in only enough energy utilised to replace the heat lost as a result in temperature changes, delivering an efficient and comfortable system with no over/under heating.”
