Officially launched by Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation, Damien English in Dundalk recently and developed by SOLAS, in partnership with industry and trade union representatives and the Education and Training Boards, the programme was created in direct response to an identified industry need.
The growth of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries in Ireland has introduced a range of new technologies to the construction and engineering sectors, which in turn has generated a need for an apprenticeship training programme to cater for these new skills and processes.
So far, 37 apprentices have been registered to the craft of pipefitting while 23 apprentices are currently on their Phase 1 on-the-job training. The other 14 apprentices are on their Phase 2 off-the-job training in the Regional Skills and Training Centre.
