Northern Regional College plumbing student Blake Hamilton, who is employed by Newell Contracts, has progressed to the finals of the Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
The recognition follows his Highly Commended award in the Apprentice of the Year category at the NI Plumbing & Heating Awards 2024 held in Titanic Belfast on November 8.
Blake is one of three finalists in the Apprentice of the Year category at the NI Apprenticeship Awards 2025, which are set to be held on March 26.
The awards celebrate apprentices who demonstrate exceptional contributions in their workplace and show dedication to excelling in their professional development and learning.
Blake, based at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, is a standout apprentice who exemplifies these qualities through his academic achievements, practical expertise and commitment to renewable energy solutions.
He consistently excels in both theoretical and practical aspects of his apprenticeship, achieves top scores in his exams and is trusted to manage jobs on-site, showcasing his advanced skills and reliability.
Demonstrating a particular passion for renewable energy and green technologies, Blake recently completed Vaillant Heat Pump training outside his formal apprenticeship. This additional qualification reflects his dedication to advancing his knowledge and skills in eco-friendly plumbing solutions.

Aaron Newell, Managing Director of Newell Contracts, said, “Blake consistently exceeds expectations, going the extra mile for our customers. He’s deeply committed to advancing his skills, spending hours researching the latest plumbing technologies, from smart systems to eco-friendly solutions.
“He’s always eager to share his knowledge with others, whether it’s supporting his peers on site or contributing to team discussions. His dedication, exceptional work ethic and ability to handle complex challenges have made him an indispensable member of our team.”
Peter Lynch, Blake’s Plumbing Lecturer at Northern Regional College, said, “Blake is a remarkable apprentice whose drive and enthusiasm for plumbing are inspiring. He combines academic excellence with hands-on skills and his eagerness to learn new technologies, especially in the renewable energy sector, sets him apart. Blake is a credit to the college, his employer and himself.”
Blake said, “I’m thrilled to be a finalist for the Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Awards. Plumbing is not just a career for me, it’s a passion.
“I’m constantly learning and looking for ways to improve, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see how my skills make a difference for customers. I’m grateful to my employer and the college for their support in helping me grow.”
