Greenline Plumbing Supplies expands with a third store and showroom

A focus on combining high-quality products with outstanding service is reaping rewards for Greenline Plumbing Supplies.

Only seven years after owner David Bates established his first plumbing counter, the business has added a Carrick-on-Shannon location to its branches in Navan and Cavan.

David Bates, Managing Director, said, “We opened in the early summer of 2017 and, with Ray Purfield behind the counter, the business significantly grew each month.

As our customer base grew, so did our staff level and fleet of vehicles to keep up with demand.

“With the market expanding into more energy-efficient systems, Daikin and Joule heat pump systems were in high demand, which in turn required larger vehicles to support our customers’ needs.

“The growth of the business in Navan kept exceeding our expectations to the point where my vision for Greenline had changed dramatically.”

Benefitting from proximity to the M3 from Cavan to Dublin, Greenline’s Navan branch – in Unit 22a of the Mullaghboy Industrial Estate – quickly established itself as a convenient stop for supplies.

“From this, my idea was to expand the business from a local plumber doing domestic dwellings to delivering direct to large-scale developments and apartment schemes, which brought a larger team of skilled and experienced staff to our company,” said David.

As trade continued to grow, a further opportunity emerged three years later when Cavan Plumbing Centre in Unit 2 of Colurgan Business Park came up for sale.

“It was an interesting chance to expand our brand into a new area and, with frontage onto the Ballinagh Road in Cavan, it was an obvious choice,” said David.

“With this acquisition, we increased our team experience and service ability and grew an instant customer base. We also got the chance to increase our bathroom sales with the addition of the showroom.”

Investing in a refurb of the new Cavan branch, Greenline welcomed an instant uplift in bathroom sales and an influx of new suppliers.

With trade taking on an increasing retail focus, the business then invested in an ecommerce website focused on bathroom sales and a social media presence across Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

“With both Navan and Cavan going from strength to strength, I decided to go and look at the market in different areas of Ireland to see if I could add value,” said David.

“After seeing the difference a good showroom can make, I wanted to find a location with potential for a significant showroom to expand our range of suppliers.”

And after a lot of research, West Gate Business Park in Carrick-on-Shannon, just off the main road between Dublin and Sligo, was determined to be an ideal location for Greenline’s third branch.
