Hamilton Gardens, Dublin

Mechanical contractor M&P Mechanical delivered yet another benchmark district heating system, this time at Hamilton Gardens, a complex of nine sophisticated buildings and 484 rental apartments nestled in the thriving community of Cabra, in Dublin 7. The 59,000m2 development was completed in September 2022.

The installation included boilers, pumps, combined heat and power systems, heat pumps, heat recovery units, heat interface units, smoke movement system, water tanks, radiators, sanitary ware, sanitary pipe systems and shower doors. The district heating system was designed to comply with current building regulations to meet NzEB energy efficiency requirements.

The residents’ heating and domestic hot water demands were met with a combination of air to water heat pumps and a combined heat and power (CHP) engine. Each apartment includes a heat interface unit (HIU) with individual meters for heating and hot water usage and a heat recovery ventilation unit, which tempers the incoming fresh air to both offset heating costs and reduce draughts from trickle vents.

M&P’s district heating design and service went beyond the mechanical installation at the rental 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments, as the complex also includes an amazing array of amenities. At Hamilton Gardens, residents enjoy an exclusive gym, co-working spaces, beautiful gardens, play areas for the little ones and even a series of local shops, such as a barber, a chemist, a grocery store and an all-important on-site café.

Mark O’Rourke, Managing Director at M&P, commented on the high efficiency of the district heating system installed at the development, “It is the great team we have that make this work, from our Contracts Manager Chris Brown to the site management delivered by Darren O’Neill, Declan Keane and Darren O’Rourke. When it comes to large apartment complexes like this, it is great to see a developer using this tried and tested district heating solution. With low maintenance and a life cycle on the main plant of over 30 years, district heating systems are more than just an efficient solution, they are effective.”
