The Ebrington Hotel, Derry

DMR Mechanical successfully delivered the full mechanical package for the £15.5m, four-star deluxe Ebrington Hotel renovation and new build project in Derry.

Ebrington Hotel is located on the site of a former naval base that first opened in 1841. Known as HMS Sea Eagle during WWII, it was an important part of the North Atlantic Command.

The redevelopment project, led by main contractor, McKelvey Construction, involved the restoration of the existing Listed buildings – including the iconic Clock Tower building – and the construction of two new building extensions to deliver a deluxe hotel accommodating 91 bedrooms with the potential to increase to 152-room capacity.

Also provided was an exquisite function room, contemporary 140-seater restaurant, a range of bars and lounges and opulent spa facilities.

The scope of mechanical services works included plumbing, acoustics, soils, ventilation, air conditioning, LTHW and gas pipework. DMR Mechanical also supplied and installed all sanitary ware on the project. Mark Rankin, Managing Director of DMR Mechanical, said, “One of the standout features of this project was the spa facilities which include a hydrotherapy pool. This required specialist pool air handling plant which was designed and manufactured by our specialist supplier, then commissioned to work alongside the pool filtration system to provide an optimised pool environment, both in terms of temperature and humidity.

“The biggest challenge facing the mechanical team came from the fact we had to work around existing buildings and preserve the character and façades of these. We believe this has been achieved very well, and the end product is a real testament to a great construction team.”

Mark concluded, “This project showcases DMR Mechanical’s expertise in collaborative working on a tight build programme to deliver a quality product on time and to client satisfaction.”
