Tucson Pumps Ltd launches Product Replacement Programme

A safety concern has been identified for certain circulating pumps manufactured between 2017 and November 2024…

Tradespeople should take care not to touch the electrical connection when checking the serial number of Tuscan circulating pumps.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued an urgent safety alert over 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems in Ireland and presenting a serious risk of electrocution.

The affected products are Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps manufactured between 2017 and 2024.

While consumers can continue to use their heating systems as normal, they must take care not to handle affected pumps as there is a serious risk of electrocution. This includes disconnecting, adjusting or attempting any maintenance on the pump.

CCPC product safety officers launched an investigation into the pumps following a referral from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).

As a result of the CCPC investigation, manufacturer Tucson Pumps is rolling out a major replacement programme. Consumers can have the pump replaced for free by an approved, qualified Tucson technician or service agent.

Patrick Kenny, Member of the CCPC, said, “This is one of the largest product safety alerts ever issued by the CCPC, and one of the most serious. There are about 114,000 of these pumps in Irish homes.

“If you’ve had work done on your heating system in the last eight years, you need to check if you have one of these pumps. Check your heating system very carefully – do not touch the pump, just look for the Tucson brand, find the serial number and check it against the list on CCPC.ie. The affected pump can then be replaced for free by an approved Tucson technician or service agent.

Tucson Pumps Limited has launched a Product Replacement Programme after identifying a safety concern with certain heating system circulating pumps manufactured between 2017 and November 2024.

The issue concerns the mains electrical coupling on affected Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m models which can be connected in reverse, posing a serious risk of electrocution. We are offering free installation of a replacement motor for affected pumps.

Consumers may not realise that they have an affected pump but, given the number of pumps affected, they are advised to check. They can do this using the serial number checking tool which is available at https://tucsonpumps.com/serial-number-checking-tool/ or by emailing productsafety@tucsonpumps.ie or phoning +353 (0)1 842 6255.

Pumps manufactured after November 2024, with serial numbers commencing after D44 02809a (for 5m models), after D32 11233b (for 6m models) and after D32 (for 8m models) are not affected.

Tucson Pumps wishes to advise consumers that installed pumps can remain in operation, but consumers must not make any physical contact with the pump electrical connection. Tucson advises consumers to immediately consult Tucson to schedule an appointment for a replacement of the pump motor by a Tucson engineer at their property.

Under this replacement program, installed units should only be replaced by an approved Tucson technician or Tucson service agent and only with a new pump motor.
