Central Pump Supplies launches Service Department

Central Pump Supplies has been supplying and commissioning water, sewage, and chemical transfer pumping equipment to the Irish market for the past 13 years and has recently launched its own Service Department.

Chris Hand is the man leading the new division responsible for repairs, periodical servicing, and customised energy audits. The Service Manager had worked as a sub-contractor for Central Pump Supplies for seven years and is thrilled to be part of the team. “I feel spoiled being able to rely on a back office with such great knowledge of the business and great stock,” he commented.

Central Pump Supplies’ Service Department provides servicing, maintenance and energy audits for large mechanical and electrical contractors that deal with commercial and industrial systems. “We analyse their pump systems and gauge how much it is costing them to run those particular items,” Chris explained. “If they are too old or not as efficient as the current models, we suggest an update with more eco-friendly options.”

Co-owner and Director Stephen McDowell stated that, today, it is simply critical to offer an expert specialist service and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) department to clients in the HVAC industry. “You just need to have more to offer, you need that edge and experts with knowledge in your team. I believe we have found that with Chris Hand joining us and I’m really excited to see what the future holds for us all,” he said.

Plans for expansion

It is still early days for the new department, but they are nearly at the limit of their capacity and booked up quite a few weeks in advance. “That doesn’t leave much room for emergency calls, so the plan is to have two to three vans on the road due to the sheer amount of work,” Chris explained. “Once the vans start hitting the road, I will take a step back to do some management work whilst still working on some projects.”

Chris also plans on delivering training to new people in the Service Team. “You can’t go to college and study pumps, or how to maintain them. It is all pretty much hand-me-downs, and I was lucky enough to be trained on the job on a one-on-one basis by a very competent professional,” he commented. “We need to get people trained and upscaled by someone who knows what they are doing.”

“Both Chris and myself have very exciting plans to develop this department,” Stephen added. “We are going to listen to our customers and simply offer them what they need, which in our view is expert engineers, highly trained, highly motivated and equipped with the latest tools and technology to give them the edge over everyone else.”
