Success of Cavan store fuels extra branch plans for Greenline

New Cavan branch flourishes after lockdown as award-winning Greenline Plumbing Supplies goes from strength-to-strength...

Greenline Plumbing Supplies’ successful Cavan branch. Due to the large volume of deliveries Greenline have upgraded to a bigger van to provide quicker and more efficient customer deliveries.

Greenline Plumbing Supplies opened their new Cavan branch in January, hot on the heels of them winning the title of Merchant of the Year at Ireland’s Plumbing and Heating Awards 2019 for customer service.

David Bates, MD at Greenline Plumbing Supplies, says it was the right time for them to make the move. “We had been thinking about expanding in Navan and were looking for premises big enough to include a bathroom showroom. But when the opportunity to buy the existing Cavan Plumbing Centre premises arrived we couldn’t ignore it.

“We got off to a bit of difficult start with the lockdown, but the trade we had from plumbers working in the hospital or council buildings was enough to keep the Cavan branch open. When we could open fully again, we had a great couple of months, dipped a little when the kids went back to school but now we’re back to steady growth.”

The lockdown did present an opportunity for the new store, however. “We had the time to revamp and rebrand the trade counter a lot quicker than we would have if we were in full operation mode,” says David.

“We left the counter where it was but rejuvenated the back walls and increased our plumbing tool stock.

We also brought in a stove display, which is on sale right now along with our winter work wear selection – so now’s a great time to get take advantage of the discounts in time for the colder months.”

Former staff member at Cavan Plumbing Centre, Liam Sheridan, was made Manager of Greenline’s new Cavan Branch. “Liam has over 20 years of experience in selling plumbing supplies and is well known in the local plumbing community. He’s a great asset to the store,“ says David, who is also based at the Cavan site.

Award-winning service
In just three years since its 2017 formation, Greenline quickly established itself as the leading heating and plumbing supplier in County Meath and is on course to do the same in Cavan. The company can now proudly declare its award-winning status for its services, having been acclaimed for outstanding customer service at the 2019 Plumbing and Heating Awards. These awards pay homage to businesses that are really blazing the trail in the industry, and attract attention from newly emerging businesses to long established industry giants.

Customer service is highly prioritised at Greenline across both its branches. All members of staff at Cavan and Navan are trained extensively on all products and are on hand to answer every customer query. Ray Purfield, Manager at Greenline explains why they focus so much on service, “Plumbers like to come to our branches because we know what we’re talking about. One of our staff members is a qualified plumber; he knows exactly what plumbers are after and the type of information they need. All members of staff attend training courses every year which means that when a plumber rings us with a question, we know how to help them.”

Although cost is a factor when it comes to product selection, it’s not the most important one. “As a plumber said to me one day, it’s not all about price. There’s no point having a great price and not delivering the product for three weeks.” Ensuring deliveries get to site when the customer needs them has been critical to Greenline’s success in Navan and it’s carried on in the ethos of the Cavan branch. “A lot of our plumbers work nationwide, so the vans go wherever they’re needed. If someone needs a delivery on site at 5am or 10pm, we’ll be there. Service is everything,” says Ray.

The company was born out of the idea that customer service and product quality are the two most important factors in gaining repeat business. When competitive prices are added to the service mix, the result is a company that’s dedicated to providing plumbers with unrivalled service. The company caters for all projects and provides a wide range of products from leading manufacturers including sanitaryware, gas/oil boilers, heat pumps and solar panels Greenline Plumbing Services started with just two staff and one van at the Navan store; that’s grown to seven staff, three vans and a jeep, along with three more staff at the Cavan branch. “Sales have gone through the roof since we first opened,” says Ray. “Covid-19 obviously gave us a little stall, like everyone else, but the business is back and flying again.”

Heavyweight manufacturers
Contributing to its growth are the many leading manufacturers that Greenline stocks, which are already well used, liked and represented across many projects in Ireland and further afield. For their plumbing department, brands like DeWalt, Milwaukee, REMS, Makita and Bosch are all proudly on display at both stores. Additionally, the company supplies boilers from Grant, Firebird, Worcester, Viessmann and Idealogic and heat pumps from Daikin and Samsung as part of their renewable heating section.

Sanitaryware from Sonas Bathrooms and RT Large is also an important offering. For their heating department, Greenline supply a broad range of radiators, cylinders, pumps, booster pumps and expansion vessels; water heaters, underfloor heating systems and the latest heating controls are all available. With these products available instore and for delivery, Greenline can cater to any plumbing and heating situation; whether it is a site on a schedule or supplying a whole new heating or renewable energy system.

The same values of quality of service, product range and pricing that have become synonymous with the Navan store are continued at the Cavan branch, but where the two stores differ is in size.

“In Cavan, we have the space for a standalone bathroom showroom,” says David. “We are currently carrying out a major refurbishment to this space and will be able to give our customers a completely refreshed showroom experience soon.”

With the future of Greenline looking increasingly brighter with every triumph, David reveals their desire to expand even further. “I’m delighted we opened the Cavan branch. It’s proving to be a great addition to the company and hopefully there will be more branches coming down the line in the near future.”

Conveniently located just off the N51, clients on their way to projects are able to easily collect their orders in the morning. Greenline is open from 7am until 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 1pm on Saturdays.
