H&A Mechanical Services celebrates 25th anniversary

HA Mechanical Services Ltd – the heating and building specialist – is celebrating 25 years in business.

The Draperstown-based company – which also has offices in Mallusk and Kildare – was established in August, 1993 by husband-and-wife team, Hugh and Anne McWilliams, and has grown from an initial payroll of just 6 people to an employee base of over 330 people (including over 50 Gas Safe Registered engineers).

While it may be classed as cliched, HA Mechanical’s success has been based on a ‘get it right first time’ philosophy and a business ethos centred on trust and reliability.

“We are proud to have been in business for 25 years and want to thank all those who have helped us reach such a significant milestone,” said Hugh. “The support we have received from our supply chain and our customers during this time has been so important and we wouldn’t still be in business if it wasn’t for them.

“Of course, our staff have also played a significant role in the success of HA Mechanical. We are proud of the fact that many of our staff joined us as apprentices and have grown along with the company.”

Currently, HA Mechanical Services remains in a strong position, continuing years of steady growth with work in both the public and private sectors.

While the company has picked up a number of awards over the years – including PNG Installer of the Year – Public Sector, PNG Training Award, OFTEC Award for Excellence and a Special Recognition Award at Northern Ireland’s Plumbing Heating Awards – the main focus of HA Mechanical Services is about building relationships.

In 2002, it was awarded its first major Northern Ireland Housing Executive Contract and that relationship has stood the test of time. Last year, HA Mechanical Services was one of three contractors to be awarded one of NIHE’s largest ever contracts awarded for the delivery of heating services to tenants across Northern Ireland. The £336million investment to upgrade heating systems also incorporates a comprehensive heating response maintenance service to include the servicing, repair and installation of all types of heating systems to its entire housing stock. The contract also includes enhanced response times and extended delivery hours.

Another reflection of the company’s long-term relationships is with Kildare County Council. Ten years ago, HA Mechanical Services secured a contract for the council’s heating replacement scheme that delivered 3,000 heating installations and, currently, the company is completing a SDCC Electrical Response Maintenance Contract for the council. The original contract saw HA Mechanical Services open a depot in Clane which has provided the company with a base for expansion into the Republic of Ireland.

Continuing working relationships with leading utility companies, Phoenix Natural Gas, Firmus and SGN Natural Gas has also mirrored the successful rise of private gas installations in Northern Ireland.
